Purpose Is Found in the Journey

inspire me

From the beginning of time, stories have shaped how we understand our lives. As Joseph Campbell says, every story is a hero’s journey—and every one of us is living one.

Purpose begins with the call. It shows up in whispers, complaints, prayers—moments when we are told that not all is right in the universe. Yet most often, we reject the call. We don’t hear it. We stay at the top of our own pinnacle, believing everything is fine. But purpose does not live in comfort. When the call is ignored long enough, we are cast out—into change, into disruption, into the unknown.

This is where purpose deepens.

In the wilderness, lost emotionally and intellectually, we begin asking the most important question: How did I get here? In that question is the beginning of awareness. In that awareness, we become open to learning. A teacher appears—a mentor, a coach, a guide—and through that teaching, transformation takes place. Purpose is not something we declare; it is something we discover through transformation.

And then comes the return.

We return not as the same person, but as someone awakened—committed to mastering two worlds: the world that was and the world we are creating. The old world remains unchanged, and purpose requires the willingness to meet people where they are. At the same time, we are responsible for building something better—for creating a future that would not exist without us.

This is the weight and the honor of purpose.

We are all on our own hero’s journey. And in that journey, purpose is not found at the beginning—it is forged through the courage to listen, the humility to learn, and the commitment to return and serve.
